Linux Server Project (Prototype)
Sorting though old junk and assembling a functional machine from my basement yielded the following:
Intel Pentium III 866MHz “Coppermine” Processor
On a 133MHz motherboard
768MB of PC133 RAM
16MB Diamond graphics card in a 4x AGP slot
80GB Western Digital Caviar Hard Disk Drive
Samsung CD-RW Optical Drive
Cisco (Linksys) Gigabit LAN card
420 watt generic power supply
I installed Fedora 10 Linux with the desktop applications for further research, and I installed VNC client on my windows machine to access the Linux desktop. I also have Sun’s Virtual Box virtualization software installed, but have not gotten to the point where I am installing any virtual OS’s yet.
The main focus of this project so far is installing and running CodeGlide’s Rendezvous software. This is a enterprise collaboration suite with CRM and ERP functionality built in. All has gone well so far, next to migrate data to the embedded database, and then on to the next phase of the servers role, a mail server. More to come.
