Solid Edge 2D V100
A lot of designers I know were beside themselves when UGS, now Siemens PLM, made the bold move to give away their 2D software package for free, and kept it current with the current version, V19 at the time. Now, with Synchronous technology in full swing at Siemens, I was doubtful that they would follow up their velocity series with a new free 2D version. I was wrong, mostly. The newest iteration of Solid Edge 2D is called V100, not V21, which would have been more logical. No huge sweeping changes here, just a reasonable update to an already great free product. It features all the benefits of V20, and now the great new ribbon like interface in a professional gray color, adding to your productivity and easily letting you forget this was a free download. If you are not a fan of the Microsoft Office 2007 Ribbon interface, you will be happiest staying with V20. I use this program for schematics with a whole library of AutoCAD blocks and electrical symbols, and this version seems a little quicker than the last, but it could be the imagination. In summary if you need a robust commercial 2D CAD application that is as modern as it is easy to use, look no further.
